I'm Gina Whimsy, and I use she/her pronouns. My "Be Authentically You" crown embodies my story as a Korean-American queer womxn. Last July, my blood family gave me an ultimatum, and gave me terms for not being disowned by them for being queer and having a transgender partner. Their terms included keeping my queerness hidden from the world and to break up with my partner, and though the decision was heartwrenching, I couldn't accept their terms and they disowned me. The last couple of months have been so painful, and I decided to take a leave of absence from medical school until the summer of 2026 to take care of my mental health. I have one more year left of school until I can graduate, and hope to match into a pediatrics residency in 2027. As an aspiring pediatrician, I plan to specialize in transgender-affirming healthcare for youth.
Before starting medical school, I volunteered as a tutor for at-risk LGBTQIA+ youth, and I became determined during that time to dedicate my career, heart, and soul to serving and advocating for LGBTQIA+ youth. I know from firstthand experience that living authentically can be so challenging when we're LGBTQIA+, and I vow to support and uplift youth who also strive to live as their authentic selves.
